Job Description: Under the guidance of the Director of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs, the Financial Aid Assistant Director provides primary support for the administration of the College’s financial aid programs. The Assistant Director helps to ensure that the College is compliant with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Qualifications: Knowledge of: Computer systems and related software programs, including spreadsheet, database, and word processing. Student financial aid programs and their rules, regulations, and eligibility requirements. Financial counseling practices. College curriculum programs requirements. Ability to: Communicate effectively (written and oral) in a variety of settings, with people from diverse backgrounds, educational levels, and age groups. Operate a PC, mobile devices, and software including Microsoft Office and relevant applications. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, administrators, the general public and outside agencies and organizations. Provide financial counseling for students to complete the FAFSA and other necessary forms and reports. Follow regulations and guidelines to maximize the amount of financial aid available to students and eliminate or reduce unmet financial need.

Essential Duties: Performs duties of the Director of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs as needed in the director’s absence. Coordinates presentations of financial aid workshops and information sessions for faculty/staff, students, and prospective students/parents. Administers and awards financial aid in compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements. Authorizes Pell/state grant charges. Certifies state grants and reconciles disbursements. Counsels students regarding available resources, eligibility, and requirements. Verifies various aspects of student eligibility, checks accuracy and makes necessary corrections and adjustments as needed. Evaluates special/mitigating circumstances and exercises professional judgement to determine whether adjustments are needed and aid can be awarded. Analyzes Unusual Enrollment History (UEH) flags and corresponding documentation for consideration in awarding financial aid. Oversees processing of all Returns of Title IV Funds (R2T4) for students who completely withdraw from school. Reviews and approves all overpayment letters; updates and maintains student’s accounts. Evaluates Year-Round Pell eligibility and adjusts student awards. Monitors Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU) limits for Pell grant recipients. Processes data transfers and submissions required by DOE, including but not limited to: R2T4 waivers, downloads, and corrections. Assists with setup and maintenance of Ellucian Colleague system for financial aid. Collects and prepares data to complete required annual reports (FISAP, NCHED, IPEDS), monthly and annual reconciliation reports, and other reports as needed. Facilitates process for students receiving aid through consortium agreements from other schools. Works with outside agencies to assist with monitoring student progress and continued eligibility for benefits. Processes month-end reports. Serves on institutional committees as appointed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be: Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field. Preferred Education: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field. Experience Required: Five (5) – seven (7) years of experience administering financial aid programs.
