Are you looking for help in finding a new career? Maybe you just want to sharpen your resume or brush up on your interview skills before making a career change. If so, Wilson Community Colleges Human Resources Development (HRD) programming may be just what you’re looking for.
The HRD program is a statewide program that is designed to provide skill assessment services, employability skills training, and career development counseling to unemployed and underemployed adults. Courses and services are provided at a very low cost and are often free for qualifying individuals. At WCC, we offer several programs within HRD that may be of interest to you.
One program that we offer is the Employability Lab. Our Employability Lab is a self-paced course where students learn about occupations, careers, and also gain the technical information to confidently apply for jobs and careers. And students receive soft skills training – which means they get training in interpersonal skills, such as teamwork, communications, and problem solving. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings on the WCC campus, and the next cohort begins May 17. Since the classes are qualified as open enrollment, students can register and enter the class at any time. Once they complete the Employability Lab, students are prepared and are encouraged to take the National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) assessment.
The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is an assessment-based credential that documents an individual’s foundational workplace skills that are important for job success across industries and occupations. The NCRC is a nationally recognized credential that employers often use in hiring workers. The cost to take the assessment is $30.00.
WCC also has a Human Services Exploration course that provides employability skills training and career exploration for a career as an Income Maintenance Caseworker with the Division of Social Services.
And an exciting new program being offered in HRD – in partnership with Dress for Success Triangle NC – is the Going Places Network. The Going Places Network is a six-week virtual job acquisition program that helps unemployed and underemployed women build confidence, gain professional skills, and accelerate job searches through weekly training sessions, one-on-one career coaching sessions, and networking. The next class begins April 5, and it’s open to women 18 years of age or older. The cost to attend is only $75 and may even be completely free for qualifying individuals.
Keep in mind that registration for HRD programs is free to adults who are unemployed, working part-time, or working full-time with an annual income within the federal poverty guidelines.
