Interested in a degree in business administration? The business administration program at Wilson Community College has courses in management, marketing, accounting, economics, and specialized electives that are designed to prepare students for several careers, managerial roles, and entrepreneurship.
A business administration degree provides graduates with the foundation to enter various industries, advance their careers, get started on a bachelor’s degree program, or pursue a new business venture. Students can enroll in the two-year degree program or take advantage of one or more of our certificates. The certificates are typically 12-18 hours of coursework designed to prepare individuals to work in a specific business sector or “skill up” for workplace advancement. No matter what path a student chooses, they will have the opportunity to learn from passionate and talented faculty members with applicable industry and entrepreneurial experience.
And we’re so proud that one of our recent Business Administration degree graduates was recently hired at the College as an Accounting Specialist. Jordan double majored while at WCC, so along with the Business degree, he also earned one in Accounting and Finance. He shared, “My time in the business administration program is one to remember. I had the pleasure of learning from knowledgeable instructors who were accommodating to their students. It is an honor to now be working alongside them, and I am confident that working at WCC will be an enriching experience.”
According to a Jobs EQ report, careers in the business sector in Wilson and surrounding counties will grow steadily over the next 5-7 years. These careers include operations managers, administrative service managers, human resource managers, logisticians, and project management specialists, just to name a few.
“One of the things that makes a business administration degree so attractive is the flexibility of careers. Our coursework is intentionally diverse, so that students who complete our degree or certificates will be able to take what they have learned and apply it to any number of jobs.” explains Wes Hill, Dean of Continuing Education and Business and Applied Technologies.
Courses in the business administration program are designed for two different delivery methods – blended and online. Blended courses have a face-to-face component where students come to campus for instruction but also have an additional online portion. This allows students who are not quite as comfortable being completely online the option of seeing an instructor in the classroom. We also offer classes that are entirely online for those students that need a more flexible schedule.
Another interesting aspect of our program is work-based learning. Students have the opportunity to work in a business environment for course credit. This allows students to apply the knowledge and skills they learn in class to the real world. For some students, the work-based learning jobs turn into full-time employment after graduation.
